Obviously, there will be a point when we stop building websites to work in IE6 - in fact, I know many who have already stopped. For us, we are waiting for the market share to fall below 5%. We feel it will then be commercially acceptable to stop developing for IE6. Of course if a client expresses that their website should be IE6 compatible we will oblige but for an additional cost.
So, when will IE6 drop below that magic number of 5%? We predict that this may happen by the second quarter of 2010, maybe even sooner with the release of Windows 7 and the ever increasing share of Firefox and other browsers.
For now, We'll continue to develop for IE6, but eagerly await the day we no longer have to deal with this awful piece of software
